In commemoration of World Menstrual Hygiene Day, the Self Discovery Organization (SDO), in collaboration with the Centre for Teens Health and Development, organized a menstrual hygiene outreach at Government Junior Secondary School (JSS) Yero Memorial, Abuja.
The outreach was designed to educate, empower, and equip adolescent girls with accurate information about menstruation, personal hygiene, and reproductive health while helping to break the stigma and misinformation that often surround menstrual health conversations.
During the interactive session, participants were taught the basics of female anatomy, the menstrual cycle, and the importance of proper menstrual hygiene practices. Facilitators provided practical guidance on how to calculate and track menstrual cycles, helping the girls better understand their bodies and make informed health decisions.
One of the highlights of the outreach was a hands-on demonstration on how to make reusable sanitary pads. This practical session equipped participants with a sustainable and cost-effective menstrual hygiene solution, particularly beneficial for young girls who may face challenges accessing menstrual products.
Beyond the educational sessions, the outreach created a safe environment where students could ask questions freely, share concerns, and receive accurate answers from health professionals and facilitators.
At Self Discovery Organization, we believe that empowering young people with knowledge is a critical step toward helping them reach their full potential. Menstrual health is not merely a health issue—it is a matter of dignity, confidence, education, and opportunity.
We are grateful to the Centre for Teens Health and Development for partnering with us on this impactful initiative. We also appreciate Jayz African Store for their financial contribution and support towards making the outreach a success.
As we continue our mission to heal the world of its infirmities by uniting people with a sense of purpose, we remain committed to creating opportunities that educate, inspire, and empower young people to thrive.
Together, we can build a future where no girl is held back because of a lack of knowledge, resources, or support.
